March 5th is Selbyville Police Department’s 90th Anniversary

Date Posted: Friday, March 5th, 2021
On this date in 1931 the Town of Selbyville officially created the Selbyville Police Department. We were tasked with,” the protection of persons and property, as well as maintaining public peace, preventing crime and promoting public morals”.
We are proud of our long histroy of service to our diverse and rapidly growing community, and just as the single officer did back in 1931, we will continue to act with the utmost integrity, holding our members to the hightest ethical standards.

The downtown business district and railroad yard was originally patrolled by town constables, until the creation of the police department. Constable James Johnson was promoted from constable to become the 1st officer.
