Local Government Overview
Government
The Town of Selbyville is a municipal corporation of the state of Delaware. It is governed by a Town Council composed of four (4) Councilmembers and one (1) Mayor. They have the legislative power to provide police protection and to develop and adopt ordinances relating to parking, zoning, traffic, signs, and construction and property maintenance code.
The Town of Selbyville is divided into four (4) election districts, each nearly equal in population based on the most recent U.S. decennial census. One (1) Councilmember is elected from each district and must be a resident of the district they represent. Each Councilmember is elected solely by the registered voters who reside within their respective district. The Mayor, who may be a resident of any of the four (4) election districts, is elected at-large.
Town elections are held on the first Saturday of March. Click here for more information.
